AI Usage
AI is huge now, and because of that, I feel like I need to make it clear what my stance on it is
-
The fact AI is actively destroying jobs and threatening the working class is disgusting, and from just this standpoint, I despise it
- In an ideal society, a job being automated would be cause for celebration. In our current socio-economic client (aka Hell) I feel obligated to hate it while it continues to cause layoffs
- It also is making life worse for everyone, with its rampant energy and water consumption
-
I will NEVER use AI for any sort of creative project I work on
- This means no art, no writing, no asking ChatGPT to generate game code for me, nothing
I came to this conclusion regarding personal projects while working on Dave's Questions. Initially, I had ChatGPT generate 100,000 questions and answers. Sure, it was fast, and it would have given many more questions, but I realized some things
- They had no soul. There were no jokes, no interesting questions, nothing with bite
- They were also trash - questions would have 2 answers that were the same, but would classify one of them as right and the other as wrong. And I wasn't asking for thermodynamics questions, I'm talking "Who starred as Captain America in Captain America: Civil War" and it would give 2 Chris Evans, only 1 of which it considered correct
- This project was supposed to be a fun thing for me and my wife to do. It was not something that had to be rushed, and if I only had 200 questions, so be it. Asking a computer to do all the work for me would not be fun
- By using it, I would contribute to the very issues I said I have with it
Each one of those questions generated in Dave's Questions was written by me, my wife, or my friends. And I think it's all the better for it
And whatever project I do next, be it a YouTube video or a new Steam game, you can bet will be slop, not because an AI generated it, but because I am vastly under qualified to be making such things, and I do it anyway. Because that is the goddamn human experience :')
